انتهت هيمنة استمرت 6 سنوات لمو فرح، في سباقه الأخير على المضمار، بعدما خسر لقب 5 آلاف متر اليوم السبت في بطولة العالم لألعاب القوى لصالح الأثيوبي مختار إدريس.

وفي سعيه لنهاية سعيدة لمسيرته التي لا مثيل لها في سباقات المسافات الطويلة قبل الانتقال للماراثون تبددت آمال العداء البريطاني، 34 عامًا، في الحصول على ثنائية سباقي 10، و5 آلاف متر للمرة الخامسة على التوالي ببطولة العالم والألعاب الأولمبية بعدما تعين عليه الاكتفاء بالميدالية الفضية.

وفي نهاية مثيرة، لم يستطع فرح مجاراة 3 عدائين، قبل أن يكافح بصعوبة ليحصل على الفضية خلف إدريس الذي سجل 13 دقيقة، و32.79 ثانية بعد لفة أخيرة جنونية.

واستخرج فرح، كل ما لديه في الأمتار الأخيرة ليتفوق على الأمريكي بول تشليمو مسجلاً 13 دقيقة، و33.22 ثانية.

وحصل تشليمو المولود في كينيا على البرونزية بزمن قدره 13 دقيقة، و33.30 ثانية، فيما جاء الأثيوبي يوميف كيجيلتشا في المركز الرابع مسجلاً 13 دقيقة، و33.51 ثانية.

وبعد حوالي 5 سنوات من تحقيقه أول ثنائية أولمبية بالإستاد نفسه، تلقى فرح مساندة 55 ألف مشجع، وقفوا وراء بطلهم البريطاني.

لكن لم يكن هناك سوى خيبة أمل، تمامًا كما حدث عندما نال يوسين بولت برونزية سباق 100 متر الأسبوع الماضي، وجاء وداع فرح بعيدًا عن النهاية الحلم التي كان يتمناها.
