يواصل الإعصار “إيرما” سيره المدمر نحو سواحل ولاية فلوريدا جنوب شرقي الولايات المتحدة، وقدرت الأمم المتحدة أن نحو 37 مليون شخص قد يتضررون جراء هذه الكارثة الطبيعية.

ودعت سلطات الولاية السكان إلى إخلاء منازلهم استعدادا للإعصار المدمر، وأضافت أنها اتخذت الاحتياطات اللازمة لحماية نحو ثلاثة ملايين مقيم في مدينة ميامي، وأكدت أن مناطق أخرى في ولاية فلوريدا اتخذت الإجراءات نفسها من حيث إغلاق أماكن العمل والمدارس وتنبيه المواطنين لإخلاء منازلهم.

وذكرت مصلحة الأرصاد الجوية الأميركية أمس الأربعاء أن المنطقة لم تشهد إعصارا بحجم “إيرما” منذ الإعصار “سان فيليب” عام 1928 الذي أسفر عن مقتل 2748 شخصا.

وفي وقت سابق، أعلن الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترمب حالة الطوارئ في فلوريدا وبورتوريكو وجزر فيرجن تحسبا لوقوع ضحايا نتيجة انقطاع الطرق أو تحطم المنازل.

وبحسب بيان صادر عن المركز الوطني الأميركي لمراقبة الأعاصير أمس الأربعاء، فإن سرعة رياح الإعصار “إيرما” المصنف في الفئة الخامسة ستبلغ ثلاثمئة كيلومتر في الساعة.

وتعتبر الأعاصير من الفئة الخامسة نادرة وقادرة على تدمير قرى وجزر كاملة في ساعات معدودة نتيجة الرياح الشديدة والفيضانات الناجمة عن الأمطار الغزيرة.

وأدى الإعصار إيرما إلى دمار واسع النطاق في أرجاء منطقة الكاريبي، محولا المباني إلى حطام، ومخلفا 14 قتيلا على الأقل.

وتواصل فرق الإنقاذ أعمالها بغية مساعدة المتضررين من الإعصار، في الوقت الذي أرسلت فيه دول مثل فرنسا وهولندا وبريطانيا مساعدات.

ودمر الإعصار، وهو من الفئة الخامسة من الأعاصير وأعلى مستوى محتمل، جزيرتا باربودا وأنغيلا، ويمر حاليا شمال جمهورية الدمينيكان ويهدد جزر توركس وكايكوس (وهي جزر بريطانية).
